Thanks to John for the following hint regarding the process of signing up to Paypal: Paypal was easy once I got it set up in English. The hardest part was finding Paypal's telephone number. As soon as I logged in in English, it switched to Japanese. I telephoned 03-6739-7360. The girl who answered spoke perfect English. She told me my default language was Japanese, which it probably is for everyone with a Japanese address. In less then a minute she set my default language to English and then it was easy.

I think we have it figured out...how to export cats & dogs from Japan

Hey there folks,

I think we have the answers to the questions I posed in my first pages post about taking animals from Japan to another country.

I thought it was strange that there was an inspection for animals that are leaving the country, but it appears that this is indeed how it is done.

The people at Narita in the Quarantine office were quite helpful and their English is amazing.  They explained that usually the inspection lasts only about an hour and you can fax them before going so they know when you're showing up.  When you fax them the details beforehand, all the info you provide to them will help speed up the process.  They seem particularly concerned with the destination country's specific requirements for importation of animals.

I'll update once we've left and our kitties have gone through this procedure.
