Thanks to John for the following hint regarding the process of signing up to Paypal: Paypal was easy once I got it set up in English. The hardest part was finding Paypal's telephone number. As soon as I logged in in English, it switched to Japanese. I telephoned 03-6739-7360. The girl who answered spoke perfect English. She told me my default language was Japanese, which it probably is for everyone with a Japanese address. In less then a minute she set my default language to English and then it was easy.

CATS ON A PLANE

We have two cats, one 6kg, the other 4.5kg.  They're not small and they're not young.  We couldn't take the smaller one (who's older and blind) in the cabin with us on ANA so we had to put him under with checked baggage (where the bigger kitty had to go too).  After the one-hour flight, they both seemed in shock.  The blind kitty bumped his nose (we think on the water dish that I had attached to both the doors of both carriers so I could put in a little water).  I don't like to think too much about this, because I think he really suffered during that short flight, but I want others to know.  I really don't think water dishes or anything hard and protruding should be put in the cage during flight.  The blind kitty's cage was scraped on one side so I think at some point it was impacted by something (before, during, or after the flight).  The blind kitty's nose was bleeding and there was blood splattered all inside the cage.  He was in shock for about 7 hours after.  The other kitty also was kind of in shock for about 30 minutes.  We broke up our trip home (3 separate flights) with two stops of two days each, staying at pet hotels each stop.  Originally I booked a 3-day stop but changed it due to our money situation (hotels that allow pets charge a lot!).  The Narita Hilton has a pet plan.  When you make the reservation, tell them you want the pet plan and remind them a few times before your arrival.  You will be charged extra if your pet makes a mess so bring lots of enzyme cleaners and litter materials with you.  The hotel says they provide these things but they don't really give you much and your pet will probably prefer that you use the stuff from home.  Start training your pet to use the items you will be using on your journey at least a month or two before you leave.  You can also buy a spray that you squirt on surfaces cats like to scratch in order to mark their territory.  I think this spray has a neutralizing or 'happy' scent.  As I write this, both cats are sleeping.  It seems that they're sleeping more and more heavily than usual.  The older, blind cat still hasn't used the toilet (aside from the number one he did in his carrier), so I'm hoping he does number two before we leave the hotel tomorrow!

More later...
